MASTERS OF THE CHASE: TOM AND JERRY…AND CHUCK. The classic cartoon chase involving forever frustrated feline, Tom, and mightily mobile mouse, Jerry, got spun in deliciously inventive ways when animation legend Chuck Jones set up shop at the team’s home studio and produced these wonderful shorts. Tom got furrier cheeks and thicker eyebrows. Jerry got larger eyes, ears and a sweet-natured expression. But Jones and his collaborators put them through their hilarious misadventures with renewed personality, style and cleverly parodied pop culture as well. The result – now viewable in widescreen, for the first time in decades, as originally shown in theatres – is a meeting of animation icons that’s endlessly entertaining.
