Disillusioned with his shallow New York lifestyle, an aging artist moves to a remote Australian island where he seeks fresh inspiration. He finds it in vivacious, young Cora Ryan who agrees to pose for him. So begins their most unusual relationship, punctuated by the intervention of the island's rich assortment of quirky inhabitants.

An easy-going bachelor dentist finds his delicately balanced scheme to string along his girlfriend crumbling under some unexpected circumstances. With the girlfriend insisting on meeting his fictitious wife and kids, the dentist asks his lovelorn nurse to pose as the wife and this sets off some unforeseen twists and surprises for everyone.
