Al Jolson's a kid at heart with a heart full of song in this backstage tale of a knock-'em-dead star who loses his voice and fortune, finds recovery and romance during a country respite, and returns to Broadway to knock 'em dead again. Jolson launches the film with a medley of his greatest hits. Great as well are the comedic crooning of The Yacht Club Boys quartet, a Hi-Di-Ho romp by legendary bandman Cab Calloway and Edward Everett Horton and Allen Jenkins lending witty comedy support. Best of all is Jolson's combo My Mammy/I Love to Sing-a number that struts from rehearsal onto the city sidewalks and builds into a gotta-dance street scene where every Mr. and Ms. John Q. Public loves to sway-a and dance-a.
