Years ago, wealthy nobleman Don Ricardo was kidnapped and sent on a ship to Spain. Now Don Ricardo has finally returned to Old California, only to find that his greedy cousin, Miguel, has declared him dead and is trying to romance his lovely fiancée, Dorothea. With the help of the padres at a Spanish Mission, Don Ricardo learns the art of sword fighting so he can now challenge Miguel to a duel to the death for both his property and his lady love!

Don Ricardo Returns is based on a story by Johnston McCulley, the creator of the famed masked hero Zorro. The actual screenplay was written by Duncan Renaldo (credited as Renault Duncan) best known as The Cisco Kid on film and television. Leading man Fred Coby was a relatively obscure actor who resembled Tyrone Power. He is most recognized for playing the handsome athlete who transformed into Rondo Hatton in The Brute Man (1946). Beautiful Andalusian singer Lita Baron performed with Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra as "Isabelita" and was the longtime spouse of Rory Calhoun. Martin Garralaga played Pancho in some of the early Cisco Kid films with Duncan Renaldo. Director Terry O'Morse (billed here as "T.O. Morse") filmed the Americanized sequences of Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956) featuring Raymond Burr.
