Tom Gives Speech And Goes Home

For many, seeing Tom Cruise open up the biggest night in Hollywood was a shocker, since earlier rumors claimed he would not be attending the gala.

The Vanilla Sky star said he didn't want to take away from Nicole's night by showing up. Maybe it was the ad Tom and his agent placed in a national trade magazine which congratulating Nicole and signed with love that eased the waters between the two.

But after Tom showed-off his new smile and gave a heart-felt monologue, he left the Kodak Theater and went home to watch the show with his kids. After all, it was his weekend to keep Connor and Isabella.
