God gets engaged to Van Wilder

The eternal question of whether God has a mate has finally been answered -- sort of. Alanis Morrisette, who played the supreme being with a penchant for Skee Ball in Kevin Smith's religious tome Dogma, got engaged this past weekend to actor Ryan Reynolds. The couple have been dating for two years following their initial flirtations over email and have not set a wedding date.

An interesting twist to these nuptials could be the role of Fletch. Kevin Smith, whom Alanis remains close friends with, is slated to write and direct a new incarnation of Fletch in Fletch Won that details the reporter's first big case. The cult director long known to prefer working with his friends has been holding out for bud Jason Lee in the title role, while there has been some public and studio support for Reynolds to take of the reins from Chevy Chase.
