Indie hit 'Sideways' leads Golden Globe nominations

The Golden Globes always seem to play second fiddle to the Academy Awards. But they both have their place. The Oscars have slightly more history and prestige while the Globes separate dramatic films from comedies and they offer categories for television.

The Globes are generally a good indication of Oscar's favorites -- and it looks like this could be a big year for Sideways. The comedy from director Alexander Payne has earned seven Golden Globe nominations followed closely behind by The Aviator with six and Closer's five.

Here is this year's complete list of nominees -- in just the movie categories -- for the 62nd annual Golden Globe Awards from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association:

Robin Williams will also be presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. The prestigious award has been given in the past to such notables as Walt Disney, James Stewart, Alfred Hitchcock, and more recently to Michael Douglas, Gene Hackman and Harrison Ford.

The Golden Globes will be awarded Jan. 16 in a ceremony to be broadcast on NBC.
