Paramount is bringing the successful Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell video game series to the big screen. According to Variety, actor turned director Peter Berg will helm the project.

Splinter Cell centers around the lead character of Sam Fisher, a super-secret spy who operates alone in stealth, choosing shadows and dark alleys to get him to his objectives. Night-vision and thermal-vision goggles are among the many tools in his arsenal. Berg will co-author the screenplay with writers J.T. Petty and John J. McLaughlin.

The Ubisoft games have already sold six million copies worldwide. The third in the series, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, arrives for the Xbox game system in March.

Paramount also produced the film adaptations for several of author Tom Clancy's novels. The films The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears all featured the character of CIA analyst Jack Ryan.

May we go ahead and suggest the role of Sam Fisher go to Jason Statham (minus the English accent, of course).
