Over the past couple of months, there has been plenty of speculation over the future of the Star Wars franchise after the last movie, Revenge of the Sith hits theaters next month. George Lucas himself has hinted at a possible live action TV show to carry on the mythology.

According to an announcement earlier today, Lucasfilm has commissioned Cameron Mackintosh to produce a musical based on the Star Wars films with choreography by Twyla Tharp. Mackintosh is best known for a slew of Broadway hits including Cats, Les Miserables and Miss Saigon. Tharp has done notable dance choreography on Broadway as well as films. Her latest collaboration was with Billy Joel on the musical, Movin Out.

While the details are still sketchy, its being reported that the musical will be told from Yodas perspective of the events surrounding all six of the movies. Michael Flatley has been cast as Darth Vader and in one scene the Dark Lord of the Dance will allegedly lead a group of stormtroopers in a Riverdance inspired dance number.
