Tom and Katie get engaged

Last week, we were speculating whether the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes romance was for real or just an elaborate marketing ploy. Well, today we got the answer in a Parisian proposal.

Tom popped the question on top of the Eiffel Tower and in true Tom & Katie fashion, he couldn't wait to talk about it. "Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman."

When asked about the significance of choosing the Eiffel Tower, Tom quipped, "I've never been to the Eiffel Tower. It's Paris, it's a beautiful city, it's very romantic." As per usual, Katie had no comment, even though she sat by her fiance's side during the press conference (for Tom's new movie War of the Worlds).

Earlier in the week, Katie confirmed that she was intrigued by Scientology and open to the idea of converting to the controversial religion based on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard.
