It looks like we'll have a nice little love triangle in the upcoming Spider-Man 3. Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of actor-director Ron Howard best known for her role in The Village, has been cast as Gwen Stacy.

In the Spider-Man comic book storyline, Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's first love -- before Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) entered the picture. Stacy was killed by the Green Goblin. In fact, it was same sequence in the first Spider-Man film where the Green dude drops MJ but she's caught by Spidey. In the comic, the scene involved Stacy and the fall killed her.

Big questions remain as to how director Sam Raimi will fit her into the current storyline of the films. We can only imagine that Parker (Tobey Maguire, natch) will struggle with feelings for both women.

The funny thing is that in the book, Gwen Stacy was a platinum blond. Howard is a natural redhead. Kirsten Dunst dyed her blond locks red to fit the famous red hair of Mary Jane Watson. Bryce is going to have to buy some peroxide for this role.

With this and all the previous Sandman/Venom rumors, Spider-Man 3 will be packed to the hilt. We hope its May 4, 2007 release date is worth the wait.
