John Travolta and Queen Latifah headline 'Hairspray'

John Travolta and Queen Latifah have been tapped to star in an adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical Hairspray. The production team behind the Academy-Award winning Chicago will oversee the project for New Line.

The Hairspray musical is based on the 1988 John Waters movie Harispray starring Ricki Lake as an overweight teenager who rocks a 1960s dance show. The Travolta starrer is tentatively scheduled for a Summer 2007 release.
