The oft-talked about big sceen adaptation of the 1980s hit TV series Knight Rider is finally on track for a green light thanks to The Weinstein Company. The Weinsteins brokered the deal and arranged for the creator (from whom they bought the rights) Glen A. Larson to produce the film.

"I am a huge fan of the original series and could not be happier that we've joined forces with Glen Larson to bring these iconic characters to the big screen," Harvey Weinstein said. Knight Rider tells the tale of an eccentric millionaire nursing back to health a cop who was left for dead and who uses his measurable resources to provide the cop, codenamed Michael Knight, everything from cutting-ege gadgets to a talking Trans Am, KITT.

There is no details on who will play Michael Knight and whether TV star David Hasselhoff will be involved. No date for release has been leaked yet, but you can expect it will be a couple years before we hear the unmistakable voice of KITT booming over the speakers in our local megaplex.
