Kevin Smith's latest chapter to his Jersey "trilogy" is getting the Cannes treatment.

Clerks II is an official selection to Cannes, albeit out of competition. Clerks II joins The Da Vinci Code, Over the Hedge and X-Men: The Last Stand in making out of competition debuts at the Cannes Film Festival. This will be Kevin's third film at Cannes, following Dogma and the original Clerks.

Clerks II picks up 10 years after the events of Kevin Smith's debut film and finds that counter jockey protagonists Dante and Randal have moved on - just not that far. The twin towers of customer disservice are working at the local Mooby's fast food restaurant still searching for their purpose in the grand scheme of things.

In a related move, The Weinstein Company announced that the wait for the American debut just got a lot shorter. Clerks II was set to debut stateside to the public on August 18th, but now Clerks will be back open for business on July 21st.
