retroCRUSH, the self-described world's greatest pop culture web site, has posted their 100 Scariest Movie Scenes. Their list encompasses over 80 years of spine-tingling scenes from cinema, including silent film Nosferatu from 1922. (That scene from another silent film, 1929's Un Chien Andalou, still makes me cringe.)

The site includes still frames from each movie to jog your memory of the film -- and in case the images haven't permanently scarred your brain already. Plus, many of those in the top 10 have video included from YouTube.

retroCRUSH's list has become a favorite on the web this Halloween. Of the response, retroCRUSH.com's owner/writer Robert Berry said, "Just like favorite foods, I find that people find many different types of movie scenes to be scary. People really seem to dig the list and like being exposed to a lot of different movies they might have otherwise never heard of."

  1. The Shining, "Room 237"
  2. The Exorcist III, "Head scissors"
  3. Night of the Living Dead, "Look who's outside"
  4. Jaws, "Heads will roll"
  5. Un Chien Andalou, "Eye slicin' fun!"
  6. Poltergeist, "Clown under the bed"
  7. Alien, "Chestburster"
  8. The Shining, "Danny takes a trike ride"
  9. Carrie, "Surprise Arm"
  10. Psycho, "Shower scene"
