According to Michael Madsen, Sin City 2 might be feeling the Grindhouse effect and may never see the light of day. The actor told Premiere while he was in Cannes that the fate of the franchise was up in the air.

"They haven’t shot it [Sin City 2] yet. I don’t know if they ever will. I am not sure [about] the franchise. I think the Grindhouse thing didn’t kind of work out as well as they had hoped. Certainly not in the States.”

The actor, who is supposed to have a bigger role in Sin City 2, went on to say that he has not seen a script yet. The original filming dates were supposed to start next month (June) for estimated release in the Spring of next year.

Now, granted the Weinsteins have to be careful about their spending while they search for their first bonafide post-Miramax hit, but it would seem that all Grindhouse stuff aside, Sin City 2 would be a no-brainer.

UPDATE: Frank Miller, author and artist of the graphic novels upon which the Sin City movies are taken from, has spoken out concerning Sin City 2 and he says that it's simply been delayed.

"Sin City 2 is still likely to happen, just not right away,” Frank Miller said. “The script is written and Robert and I are raring to go, but it looks like I’m going to be doing The Spirit first and Robert’s going to be doing Barbarella first.”

Hmm...a delay might be a stay of execution, but the words "still likely to happen" have us still likely to be scared that Sin City 2 might never see the light of day.
