10 Hollywood Stars That Should Be Superstars

Hollywood is a funny place these days. Long gone are the days of James Dean when Tinsel Town was more a place of talent. These days, talent isn't enough.

Well-placed connections and regular appointments with your plastic surgeon seem to be the keys to success, more so than real talent anyways. And it's a shame because there are some really talented people working in Hollywood, but they are constantly overshadowed by Britney's trainwreck du jour.

But not here.

Oh no, we value people on merit and merit alone. With this in mind, we started to formulate another top ten list. Well, really two top 5 lists.

We were searching for those stars that, for one reason or another, haven't gotten their big break yet. All of these starlets-in-training are on their way up, but they've been in the game long enough to have deserved better.

We are positive that this list will touch a nerve or two with our readership. Feel free to tell us what you think of our list and to offer a few suggestions. We'll gladly poke fun and ridicule as necessary.

Until then, here is our Hollywood actors and actresses that should be stars.

ACTRESSES

  1. Katee Sackhoff - No, Katee is related to the other Hoff, she actually has talent. Most of her success has come on the small screen, but when she can come in and pretty much own two TV series (Battlestar Galactica and this year's Bionic Woman). In fact, some would argue that her portrayal of Sarah Corvus is the only reason this show is still on the air. With a paltry big screen resume, it can only be a short time before she's a big star in Hollywood.
  2. Ginnifer Goodwin - Ginnifer is another actress hoping to turn her TV success into more general Hollywood acclaim. She is starting to turn heads in HBO's Big Love and her bit parts in movies are starting to get a little juicier with each one. She's set to join a star-studded cast in the ensemble piece He's Just Not That Into You. My prediction, there will be more funny spellings of "Jennifer" for newborns in the next few years.
  3. Melissa George - This poor Aussie just can't seem to catch a break. Fans turned on her after she turned on fan favorite Michael Vartan on hit show Alias. She's been almost pigeon-holed into campy horror flicks ever since her turn in The Amityville Horror and it's a shame because this girl has some mad acting chops.
  4. Shannyn Sossamon - I think Shannyn's biggest problem is that it's darn near impossible to spell her name correctly. That has to be it, because she should be a mega star after her debut in A Knight's Tale. She has always chosen the edgy roles and that may have hindered her route to success, but her latest gig as a sultry, fanged temptress on Moonlight might finally be the one that puts her over the top.
  5. Rose Byrne - When you get your start as Natalie Portman's stand-in assassinated body, you would think Hollywood stardom is within reach, but alas for Rose that gold ring has been just out of her reach ever since. She's recently done some great work on the Summer TV smash hit Damages, holding her own against the likes of Glenn Close and Ted Danson, so perhaps that long sought-after success will soon be hers.

ACTORS

  1. Hugh Dancy - It's the Beatles all over again with the British invasion of actors. Now that Clive Owen is finally getting his fair due, look for Dancy to be the next big Brit.
  2. Bradley Cooper - Another Alias vet, Bradley jumped into the big screen in a big way with 2005's Wedding Crashers. Now, he's pretty recognnizable with movies goers, but there's one thing they haven't seen yet and that's his massive talent.
  3. Ben Foster - Ben's a guy that has been in all the cool movies over the last five years or so, but no one seems to remember him more than in fleeting thoughts. His last couple of roles have really showcased his talents and it looks like he's on the verge of that big breakout.
  4. Peter Sarsgaard - At 36, Peter is getting a little long in the tooth when it comes to having his Hollywood breakout, but that doesn't seem to matter to him. He continues to churn out awesome supporting performance after awesome supporting performance. At some point, he will be a big time Hollywood star. Think Philip Seymour Hoffman pre-Capote.
  5. Nathan Fillion - This one is for all of you Firefly lovers out there. Yes, I'm finally becoming one of the converted. This man is probably Hollywood's best kept secret. Sadly, with his turn on Desperate Housewives this season and his upcoming role in Trucker should propel him up into Hollywood's elite list.
