There's a New York City monster movie from producer J.J. Abrams coming on 01-18-08. If you've traversed the internets in the last several months, you've probably heard about it.

The most notable thing about it, it seems, is the fact that it's gone without a title for so long. It's been referred to by its code name "Cloverfield" but has had many rumored titles like "Monstrous" and "Colossal."

Several web sites including cloverfieldproject.com, cloverfieldclues.com, and cloverfieldnews.com have popped in an attempt to decode it all. There's also the bizarrely cryptic official site at 1-18-08.com.

Well, the mysterious ends now. The movie -- whose trailer will debut a final trailer this weekend in front of Beowulf -- finally has a title. The title is...

Cloverfield

Man, I feel like I've been sucker punched. Talk about anti-climatic.

Perhaps this is just another case where an internal codename has taken on so much notoriety with the general public that it has stuck. Kind of like Apple's big cat code names for their operating system versions. When they came up with the names, I don't think they had any idea millions of people would go out and buy something called OS X Leopard. But the name stuck.

So too has Cloverfield stuck.

The question now becomes what does this monster (or monsters) look like? I haven't heard if the trailer provides any indication.

I kinda hope the monster looks a little like this:

(You gotta hand it to whomever did this. It's a brilliant parody.)

Who ya gonna call?
