The American Film Institute is famous for its list of the 100 best movies of all time. You know the one, it first published in 1997 and then updated this year.

What you may not realize is they also pick the 10 best movies and TV shows for each year. Unlike their Top 100, these annual lists are unranked (which is kind of a cop-out if you ask me).

Here are their choices for 2007 in Film:

And here is the AFI's best of 2007 in Television:

According to USA Today, the lists were chosen by two separate panels of 13 members each. They include actors, filmmakers and critics.

Of course the movies above are expected to be high on the list of nominees for this year's Oscars when they are announced on Jan. 22.

You can click on each movie and TV show to see when each will be able for viewing on DVD. (Knocked Up, Ratatouille, Longford and the final season of The Sopranos are already on DVD.)
