Green Light, Red Light, Green Light... 'Scream 4' is a go?

"To be or not to be," that was the rhetorical question asked by Hamlet so many moons ago and it seems that The Weinstein Company is still searching for the answer. Last October, we told you about a new blog site supposedly owned by The Weinstein Company that claimed that Scream 4 had been given the proverbial green light.

They even had an official sounding press release that went something like this:

"The Scream franchise has become a cult classic. Together, all three movies have grossed over $300 million at the box office, just in the United States alone. The fans have been asking for a 4th Scream movie for years and we're finally giving it to them. As far as details go, we're only in the planning stages and we may not get around to it for quite some time, but rest assured, it will happen."

A few days later, the whole thing was revealed to be a hoax by Bloody-Disgusting and The Weinstein Company disavowed any knowledge of the blog and claimed that there were no plans to make Scream 4.

But we refused to give up hope. We didn't kill the title in our database and we even made this cool pre-pre-pre-development poster that you see here in our down time.

The "Weinstein Blog" went away. Months passed and we all forgot about Scream 4. Well, everyone but The Weinstein Company apparently.

Yesterday, The Weinstein Company and Showtime announced a big distribution partnership and the press release was like 30 pages long. Buried deep in the small print was this little gem"

The output deal also includes releases from Dimension Films such as "Youth In Revolt," based on C.D. Payne's bestselling book and starring Michael Cera, "6 Billion Dollar Man," the remake of David Cronenberg's "Scanners," re-starting the "Scream" franchise with "Scream 4," and "Piranha 3D."

OK, so the rhetoric wasn't as glowing as the faux blog, but it's an official admission from the brothers Weinstein that Scream 4 is a go. Now, the question remains, does the world need a Scream 4?

Tell us what you think and who should be cast/brought back. I'm sure that Neve Campbell has some free time on her schedule these days.
