Adam Sandler joins 'Green Hornet'

According to the LA Times, Adam Sandler is rumored to be donning tights for next Summer's The Green Hornet. The rumor is that Sandler will have a cameo as a "surprise superhero."
Of course, cameo speculation is the least bothersome nuisance for the troubled production. Writer/titular superhero Seth Rogen is currently looking for a replacement director after director/sidekick Stephen Chow opted out of the director's chair but decided to keep a firm lock on the Kato role. Chow's bailout is fueling wild rumors that the project is dead once again.
But Seth Rogen isn't going to let his vanity project die a quiet death. He recently responded to the rumors over at HitFix.
"The Green Hornet has many people working for it, including production designers, costume designers and many conceptual artists, office staff, etc. [The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we're able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibility, it should still hit the release date."
It's possible that the Adam Sandler rumored involvement could stem from his and Seth Rogen's upcoming collaboration Funny People. Following the same train of thought perhaps the new director could also be a recent Seth Rogen collaborator.
And looking over Seth's recent work, one director stands out from the pack, Kevin Smith. Not only is Smith a huge comic book fan, but he was also attached to direct The Green Hornet before Rogen came onboard.
This is pure speculation on my part, but Smith originally balked at the project because he didn't consider himself to have the action chops to handle a big budget action extravaganza. The current incarnation is more comic in nature and Smith has acted on Live Free or Die Hard in the interim, so perhaps those fears have lessened in recent years.
Also and most importantly, Smith is currently available as he works to get financing in place for his next project, Red State.
Needless to say, the next couple of months will be crucial if The Green Hornet is going to hit is theatrical date of June 25, 2010.
