I need some convincing on this Sherlock Holmes movie. I've watched the trailer and my colleague John promises me it'll be stellar.

I've stopped having high expectations for a Guy Ritchie flick. Sure Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch were good, some of the best for the period. Revolver and RocknRolla didn't live up to the hype. I no longer have faith in Ritchie, even post-Madonna.

I also don't like when they "re-imagine" classic characters and storylines. This new generation Holmes is barely recognizable from the Basil Rathbone version from yore.

So, while you review this new stills from the film coming Christmas Day, contemplate this question: Is it better to have high expectations for a movie in hopes of being rewarded or should we approach him film-viewing with an open mind? It seems the experience is that much greater with the former and less of an event with the latter.

Send in your thoughts. How do you approach a new movie? Also, are you looking forward to Sherlock Holmes?

Oh, incidentally, the trailer for Kevin Smith's latest -- A Couple of Dicks, A Couple of Cops, Two Girls, One Cop, or whatever they're calling it -- will premiere in front of Sherlock Holmes.
