I like to think of myself as someone who's up on all the latest animated flicks. With all the recent hype surrounding Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon I had forgotten that their next film was coming this November.

Megamind (formerly Oobermind, formerly Mastermind) is a superhero comedy featuring the all-star voices of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill. Watch the early trailer right here:

Despite the classic AC/DC track, I'm not overly impressed with this so far. I'm already tired of Will Ferrell's voice. (He was appropriately reined in on Curious George but seems to be over-the-top here.) Robert Downey Jr. was previously cast in the lead role but dropped out. I have to think he'd be better suited for the role.

There's also Despicable Me, the animated film which also features an evil protagonist. Coming in July, it'll make this autumn release look like a poor imitation. And as a Pixar fanboy, I can't help thinking of the awesomely awesome The Incredibles when I watch this.

OK, enough Dreamworks bashing. I do totally recommend seeing How to Train Your Dragon which opens in theaters this Friday. I've had the luxury of seeing it twice now. (Advance screenings -- you gotta love 'em.) It's a great film with an excellent message.

It's an ideal film for 7 to 12 year olds, especially boys. My nine-year-old son absolutely fell in love with the film. Now he's reading the books upon which it's based.

I would hesitate taking younger kids to see the movie. It's a little intense at times. And naturally, it features a lot of dragons which can kind of freak out the pre-school crowd.

What do you think of this Megamind trailer? Is it something you're looking forward to now? Let us know!
