The hit animated film How to Train Your Dragon lands on DVD and Blu-ray on Friday, Oct. 15. A double pack with the all-new adventure "Legend of Boneknapper Dragon" will also be available. The new 12-minute short has Hiccup, Gobber and the other kids battling a mysterious dragon that no Viking has ever seen.
In addition to the DVD two-fer, there will be a single DVD with just the movie. Additionally, there will be a "Dragon Double Pack" which includes the popular DVD plus Blu-ray combo option. A single Blu-ray will also be released.
Dreamworks and Paramount are promising "loads of Viking-sized extras" for this release. Here is a list of the bonus bits available:
- Animators' Corner (BD Exclusive)
- Trivia Track (BD Exclusive)
- Tech of Dragon
- Interview: Viking-Sized Cast
- The Way We See it
- Meet Cressida Cowell
- Going for the Gold
- How to Draw a Dragon
- Dragon Training Final Exam
- Filmmakers' Commentary
- Sneek Peek Trailers
- DWA Sneak Peek (trailers)
- Additional Scenes: Deleted Scenes
- Music Videos: DWA Jukebox
Thanks in part to premium 3D ticket sales, How to Train Your Dragon made over $215 million at the domestic box office and $480 million worldwide. Paramount isn't doing a 3D home version at this time but that is sure to come later. Sony took this tactic with another kid-lit adaptation Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. That film is now available in 3D on Blu-ray.
We hope to have final DVD and Blu-ray packaging images to share with you soon.
