Before a little movie called The Social Network came along, Inception was the talk of town and odds on favorite for Best Picture this year. We can finally announce that you'll be able to relive Inception all over again in your own personal limbo on December 7.

While the exact details of special features are scant currently, we can tell you to expect over 90 minutes of extra content. Warner Bros. is touting an "Extraction Mode" on the Blu-ray in which director Christopher Nolan and star Leonardo DiCaprio provide a more rich viewing experience of the movie.

Recently, director Kevin Smith provided a similar benefit on his Blu-ray release of Warner's Cop Out called the "Maximum Comedy Mode." It was classic Kevin Smith and it truly added to the hilarity on-screen. I can only imagine that a similar insight into the mind behind Inception will make the Blu-ray a must-own item on its own.

Also, from the sell sheet that you see above, it appears that the Inception Blu-ray will involve some sort of Object Hyperlinking mechanism, ala the QR Code campaign they ran on promotional t-shirts for the theatrical release. While I'll be honest, I'm completely clueless about this technology, the image will somehow activate a feature called "Unlock the Dream" that will deliver new weekly content post-street date.

If you know what technology this is, please enlighten us.

However, the biggest news might be what's missing from this official Warner Bros. announcement. About a month ago, details about the United Kingdom release of the movie on home entertainment leaked and featured a very cool special edition of the Blu-ray enclosed in a metal case similar to one from the movie. You can see the British version here.

The fact that they didn't announce the briefcase version makes me think that it will either be a retailer exclusive at say Best Buy or that they will wait and release the briefcase version at a future date.

The suggested retail for the DVD is $28.98 while the Blu-ray combo pack which includes a DVD version will retail for $35.99. Oh, and in case you were still wondering, we think that The Social Network will drop on DVD and Blu-ray in January.

Use SnapTag to Unlock The Dream

I subscribe to the theory that when all else fails turn to Facebook. And in this case, I'm rewarded. It turns out the on the Inception Facebook page, they've added a tab called "DREAM" which explains the process that they are calling SnapTag.

There's a neat video explaining the process and how it work. As I theorized, each time you send in the picture, you get content and weekly updates. One thing the video did reveal is that this whole campaign is building to a "Final Kick." I'm sure this is just hyperbole, but wouldn't it be awesome if Christopher Nolan himself provided the "Final Kick" and gave his interpretation of the ending and how it relates to the rest of the movie.

Now, that would be worth the experience. If you want to read more about SnapTag technology, you can click here.
