New 'Tron' trailer is an enigma

The original Tron came out in 1982 and I bet that I've seen it since a couple of hundred times since my parents took me to see it at theaters. So, I would say that I'm fan.

However, please leave my childhood alone. I want to retain those memories without having them tainted with the images of Jar JAr Binks. Or, in this case Jar Jar Bridges.

Today, Disney released the third (and presumably last) trailer for the upcoming Tron: Legacy, a sequel to my beloved Tron. I suppose that it was only inevitable that once reality surpassed the frontiers established by the ground breaking movie, Disney would attempt to make lightning strike twice.

The trailer itself is the best of three with more emphasis placed on the plot of the new movie, but I'm still not sold on the new project. To me, it still reeks of a money grab at the expense of my childhood memories. I know that I'll get plenty of replies to the contrary (feel free to send them in here), but I still feel that some movies should remain untouchable.

This new trailer also gives us an extended look at what my colleague Tim likes to call Jar Jar Bridges, the CGI created youthful incarnation of actor Jeff Bridges. It's sacrilege to see them create this abomination and scares the you know what out of me to think what they'll use this technology for in the future.

Let the old stay old and the dead stay dead. Can you imagine if they announced a new John Wayne movie coming out using a CGI version of the deceased actor? You might think I'm mad now, but when something like this comes out, you remember that you heard the first warning here.

As for Tron: Legacy, I leave it up for you to decide. It debuts in theaters on December 17. Personally, I'll be skipping it.
