As a unabashed hockey fan, I admit that when I heard the news that Jay Baruchel was writing and starring in a hockey movie, I was pretty stoked. It was like a nice little match made in Heaven surpassed only by the fact that Kevin Smith was also making a hockey movie.

For hockey fans, it doesn't get better than this.

For those that don't know the whole back story allow me to paraphrase. After working together on Cop Out, Kevin basically cast Seann William Scott as his lead Buddy McCracken, a hockey tough guy aspiring to score one goal in the NHL. The problem was that Hit Somebody was still in the writing stages and a few years off in the horizon.

Enter Baruchel who also wanted Scott to play his lead hockey tough guy in his movie Goon that was getting ready to shoot. It all ended amicably for all sides and Seann William Scott went to go do Goon, while Kevin found his Buddy in his next movie Red State in Nick Braun.

So, you can imagine how much anticipation has been building towards that first look at Goon. Well, the movie debuted over the weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival and Canadian distributor Alliance released the movie's first trailer today.

There have been a few stills circulating the 'Net for awhile of Scott and Liev Schreiber that you can see below.

We would love to hear your first impressions. As a hockey fan, naturally I'm going to be biased for any hockey movie. I think the footage shows promise, but I wasn't blown away by it. I'm pretty sure that they are saving the best stuff for the film, but I can say that having an R rated hockey movie again just feels right.
