Earlier in the week Argo director Ben Affleck was overlooked when the Academy Award nominations were announced. He had the last laugh Sunday night when he won the Hollywood Foreign Press's Golden Globe trophy. The actor/director won the top auteur prize.

Argo also won for Best Motion Picture, Drama. On the comedy/musical side, Les Miserables won Best Film as well as acting prizes for Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway. The top dramatic acting awards went to Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln and Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty.

With a strange and confusing acceptance speech, actress and director Jodie Foster won the Cecil B. DeMille award for her legendary career.

As is typical for these award fetes, the hosts become as big a story as the winners themselves. Best buds Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler received excellent reviews for their performance as co-emcees. The entertained the audience with lots of jokes both on and off the stage. Perhaps a first, they took turns appearing among the guests as faux nominees for a faux film titled "Dog President." Catch their opening monologue at the bottom of this story.

Another memorable moment came from fellow Saturday Night Live alums Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell as they jokingly announced the prize for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy or Musical. Both appeared clueless as to the nominees. It's worth watching just for Tommy Lee Jones' reaction.

If you missed the Golden Globes completely, you missed our attempt to poke some fun at the awards ceremony via our live twitter stream. This year, we also created a Storify post that updated live on our site. You can check out the archived story here.
