Briefest of first looks at 'Divergent'

I know that I've overused the term "the next Hunger Games," but this time I'm not alone. Many people are comparing Divergent to the blockbuster, mostly because both properties are based on books set in a dystopian, post-Apocalyptic future.

For Divergent, the setting is a beaten up Chicago (awesome) and deals with young teens who are split into one of five factions based on their personality. While there are rivalries and "battles," it's not quite as dark and bleak as The Hunger Games. At least not yet, but the third book hasn't been released yet.

The comparisons don't stop there either. Both books and films are led by a strong female protagonist and for Divergent, it's Shailene Woodley who has been tasked to carry the weight of the franchise. Much like JLaw, she's a hot "it" girl and her ceiling is pretty much limitless.

What does remain to be seen however is if the film can bring in the big time bucks that its predecessor did. While we'll have to wait until March 21, 2014 to know for sure, I'm predicting a hot, early start to Summer next year.

Gee, what other film opened in March and blew away all expectations? Oh yeah, The Hunger Games.

I can't believe it's come to this, but here is 13 seconds from Divergent. It's a tease of the teaser which is rumored to debut this weekend at the MTV VMAs. We'll keep our eyes peeled and update accordingly.
