Steve Carell steals the show in new 'Anchorman 2' trailer

I've always had a love/hate relationship with Steve Carell. In small doses, I think he's hilarious and really helps to balance out the comedy of a film. But when he's the lead, I often find him to be grating and a bit obnoxious.

The weird thing is that I don't think there's much of a difference between the two performances per se, I just think his brand of funny works best in snippets. Well, thankfully for the producers of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, they realize this and put Brick Tamland front and center for the latest trailer for the sequel.

I'm not sure if the opening funeral scene is in the movie or just simply a pot shot towards The Hangover Part III, but either way, it's brilliant. The scene also helps to frame the events of the film in the middle of 1979, on the cusp of the cable news explosion.

While the trailer does a good job giving the story some loose parameters, it seems to steer clear of giving away too much of the plot or all of the funny bits. What it does do is showcase Steve Carell brilliantly and makes us want to see more.

And really, isn't that the point of a trailer? Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues hits theaters on December 20. Prepare to laugh.
