One thing that we failed to report yesterday in the MMM was any new Star Wars news. The reason was simple, at the time, there was no Star Wars news to report.

It's funny what 24 hours can do.

It seems that Star Wars: Episode VII is going to break new ground in the Star Wars universe if the latest rumor is to be believed. Latino Review first reported that Billie Lourd has been tapped for a role in Episode VII.

Who is Billie Lourd you ask, aside from never having appeared in a movie before? Well, she happens to be Carrie Fisher's daughter. Billie Lourd is 21 and yes, she does look like quite a bit like a young Princess Leia.

Of course, the wild speculation train being what it is, the immediate rumors indicated that she was playing a young Princess Leia in a flashback scene. While this may certainly indeed end up being true, I'm a bit skeptical. There has never been a flashback sequenece in any Star Wars and while J.J. Abrams is keen on them, he also knows that the diehard audience isn't going to stand for any sort of stunt filmmaking, especially if it alters the canon.

At this point, it hasn't been confirmed by anyone that Lourd has been cast, so let's just wait and see, ok?

The second piece of Star Wars news hits a little closer to home, so to speak. Friend of the site Kevin Smith is across the pond doing a few podcast shows and screenings of Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! and wouldn't you know it, he found his way onto the set of Star Wars: Episode VII

While he claims to have signed an NDA, he does give the film his seal, er tears, of approval. Some sites speculated that he might show up in the film in a cameo, but I'm not buying it. Sure, he could, but I think seeing Silent Bob standing there would be the sort of gimmick that would take some people out of the film altogether.

Who knows, maybe Kevin Smith filled in for Harrison Ford for a few scenes while the actor mends his broken ankle.
