It seems a bit trite to call anything related to Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy epic at this point, but it's true. This teaser trailer for the final film in the trilogy is indeed.

At over two minutes in length, it's apparent that at this point Peter Jackson has no idea what "teaser" means, but we're not complaining at all. For a film that is titled after a battle that lasts only five pages in the book, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies looks to be every bit as epic as the other films in his Middle Earth series.

The only thing left to discern is whether Jackson plans to have a series of false endings that last an hour or so like he did for his Lord of the Rings trilogy. If I were a betting man, I'd wager on yes, but that's just me.

You might recognize the haunting song from the trailer as being "Pippin's Song" from Return of the King. Besides being a great foreboding song, it serves to bridge the gap between the two ultimate battles from the two trilogies. You know, lest you forget that they are connected or anything.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will debut in theaters on December 17.
