You'll have to forgive me if I'm a little slow this morning. Not only am I trying to get my legs back under me in this whole MM thing after a couple of weeks away, but our hockey team won the league championship last night.

In case you are unfamiliar with hockey, when you win a championship, it's a prerequisite that you head to the closest watering hole and celebrate profusely. Needless to say, the morning has been a bit rough. I'm not quite as young as I once was, but I'm a professional so the show must go on.

Check out the gratuitous victory shot below (just make sure no one tells Disney or George Lucas about our Star Wars inspired jerseys).

Well, as they say, there's no better way to get through something than by just getting back on the horse. I may have mixed a metaphor or three there. It's time to figure out why you all love The Rock so much. And don't even get me started on the whole Emma Stone is an Asian-American in Aloha.

Box Office 411

It's been a couple of weeks since we last discussed the box office and it's been a little hit and miss. Last week, Tomorrowland eked out a slim victory with $33 million, but it dropped precipitously this week to $13.8 million and third place. The $33 million opening was seen as a bit soft for the latest Disney release so this huge drop will only magnify the shortcomings.

On the other end of the spectrum, there's nothing small about San Andreas. The Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock-starrer easily took the top spot this week with $53.2 million. The take even bested Warner Bros.' rosiest predictions that had the top range opening at about $40 million. San Andreas also becomes the highest opening for a film top-lined by The Rock and I'm left scratching my head yet again over his appeal.

And then there's Aloha. I know it means hello and I know it means goodbye, but apparently it's also Hawaiian for box office poison. Cameron Crowe has had a rough go of it lately as he hasn't had a "hit" since 2001's Vanilla Sky. Aloha opened with $10 million in sixth place, just a wee bit better thank Crowe's last film We Bought a Zoo. Unlike Zoo though, Aloha probably won't get a second week boost to its numbers thanks to Christmas, unless they've started a new Christmas in June thing and haven't told me yet.

As it stands, San Andreas will continue to be felt at the box office for a few more weeks before settling down with a total in the $180 million range. Aloha, meanwhile, will say goodbye before it makes it to $40 million.
