What if I told you that you could go home tonight and watch the follow up to last year's break out hit Gone Girl? Well, if you have DirecTV, you can do just that. Sort of.

Author Gillian Flynn has written three books to date and while Gone Girl is the one that everyone associates with her, I'm not entirely convinced that it's her best work. Sharp Objects was her debut novel and I'm a huge fan of her middle offering Dark Places. Basically, if you like your books dark, then these three fit the bill.

In many ways Dark Places is darker than Gone Girl and while it doesn't feature an A-list director like David Fincher, the cast is just as good, if not better. Charlize Theron is perfect in my mind as Libby Day and young Nicholas Hoult looks quite good as Kill Club member Lyle Wirth. Christina Hendricks, Chloe Moretz and Tye Sheridan also star in the adaptation.

I haven't heard much about the film until today, when the trailer dropped along with word that it's currently available to view exclusively on DirecTV. That's a full six weeks before it debuts in theaters on August 7.

DirecTV has had exclusive premieres in the past, but this has to be the most high-profile exclusive that they have gotten to date. The trailer looks to capture the spirit of the book perfectly and I can't wait to check it out. The only question is will I wait until August to catch it on the big screen?
