If you want to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters one last time, then you might want to plan that trip in the next few weeks. Disney and LucasFilm announced today that The Force Awakens would debut on DVD and Blu-ray on April 5. No fooling, the digital release will debut a few days earlier on April 1, but if you wait a few days, you can get both for roughly the same price.

The physical options are a single-disc DVD and a three-disc Blu-ray Combo pack that includes a Blu-ray copy, a DVD copy, a disc of bonus features, and a digital HD copy. The bonus features included with the Blu-ray Combo pack are highlighted below.

  • Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey – For the first time, discover the complete story behind the making of The Force Awakens, revealed through in-depth footage and exclusive interviews with the actors and filmmakers in this feature documentary.
  • The Story Awakens: The Table Read – Cast members familiar and new reflect on the memorable day they all first came together to read the movie’s script.

If you want a sneak peek at some of those bonus features and deleted scenes, check out this announce video.

What you won't see anytime soon is an Ultra HD Blu-ray version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. More on that to come, but Disney is taking a decidedly wait-and-see approach with the new physical format and doesn't expect to enter the market until 2017, at the earliest.

Disney is offering exclusive content and packaging at a slew of retailers, so I suppose you can shop around and find the package and extra goodies that most appeal to you before you decide to buy. The main artwork for the film is below.
