George Lucas has never been accused of being reckless and rushing his projects. And that's why you won't see the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD until 2006.

While Lucas did admit that he relented to public pressure to bring Phantom Menace to DVD, he said that he still plans on finishing the current films before going back and re-releasing the older ones on the new format.

Phantom Menace debuts on DVD on October 16 and features seven new scenes not featured in the theatrical version of the movie. Since the majority of the film is digital, or has digital elements, Lucas and company had to go back and actually finish the scenes before they were ready for the DVD.
