Winona's 'Shopping Spree' Was Research

Winona Ryder's says her little escapade at Saks Fifth Avenue was just research for her upcoming role. The Girl, Interrupted star claimed her movie director suggested she go out and steal for preparation.

Her research landed her a pair of handcuffs and a hefty $20,000 bail. In addition to a court hearing in January Ms. Ryder is now in treatment at the Promises Clinic in Malibu to help her straighten out her troubled life. She'll have to get used to writing $20,000 checks since that is the going price a week at the clinic. Must be some little party out in Malibu.
