One hundred years ago, on April 10th 1912, the world's largest and most luxurious steamship ever built, the RMS Titanic, set sail on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. Despite her ‘unsinkable' image, it was a journey she could never complete. In less than five days, she would fatally strike an iceberg and lie broken on the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. Taken from the testimonies of the survivors of that tragic night, this film will use drama and documentary to piece together the final few hours before and after the collision and reveal how she was doomed from the outset. With the forces of nature conspiring against her in a ‘perfect storm', we will prove that the sinking and subsequent loss of over 1500 lives was an inevitable disaster. We will reveal the real reason why she sank and why so many would die, finally closing the case on the RMS Titanic. Our detective is author and historian Tim Maltin. Tim has spent the last 20 years researching the tragedy of Titanic and has developed a new and final theory about what really went on the night that Titanic sank. Working from his base in London, Tim has drawn together clues from key sources across the world. His knowledge will blow apart many a myth and ultimately reveal a watertight theory that will shed new light on the Titanic disaster and forever change our understanding of what happened that night. To prove his theory, Tim will journey across the North Atlantic, travelling from the furthest tip of Newfoundland by boat out to the Labrador Current and the scene of the crime. Icebergs still haunt this stretch of water and will inevitably give him the best opportunity to understand the geographical circumstances of Titanic's fatal last night.
