An intensely satisfying drama of rugged primitive justice, THE MAN FROM LARAMIE marked the final, and finest, collaboration of one of the most important teams in Western films: director Anthony Mann and star Jimmy Stewart. Together this perfectly-matched pair provided audiences with eight classic pictures, including Winchester '73 and Strategic Air Command. Under Mann's superb direction, Stewart departs from his well-loved "ordinary hero" role and gives a riveting performance as a resolute vigilante obsessed with finding the man responsible for his brother's death. Among the suspects are an arrogant cattle baron (Donald Crisp), his sadistic son (Alex Nicol) and his ranch foreman (Arthur Kennedy, in the best performance of his career). One explosive confrontation, in which Stewart is dragged by a wild horse and shot in the hand at close range, is one of movie history's most memorable sequences. Among the first Westerns filmed in CinemaScope, THE MAN FROM LARAMIE uses the widescreen technology to emphasize the scope and power of this harrowing action-drama, making it a perfect example of the Western as America's epic art form.,Charlton Heston and Brian Keith star in this film about the closing days of the fur-trapper era of the wild west. THE MOUNTAIN MEN features a fine supporting cast, which includes Stephen Macht, John Glover, Seymour Cassel, David Ackroyd and Victor Jory.,James Garner (TV's "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files"), in a decidedly different change-of-pace role, is a ruthless outlaw who leads his gang of thieves in search of a fortune in gold in this explosive western adventure. Sledge (Garner) learns of a gold cache stored in a prison fortress and gathers his gang to pursue the loot. Against a backdrop of double crosses, dirty dealings and revenge, their gold lust end in a hail of bullets, two-fisted action and cold-blooded murder. An offbeat spaghetti western in the tradition of Sam Peckinpah, A MAN CALLED SLEDGE was directed and co-written by famed screen heavy, actor Vic Morrow.,Gregory Peck and Omar Sharif battle to find a legendary cache of gold in this spectacular Wild Westadventure. In the Arizona Territory of the 1870s, Marshal Sam MacKenna (Peck) is the only living person who knows the tortuous route to the fabulous "Canon Del Oro". During his journey, MacKenna is captured by Colorado (Sharif), a brutal Mexican bandit who has long sought his death. But if MacKennais to lead the cutthroat gang to the lost treasure, Colorado must keep him alive. En route, MacKenna and the outlaw band are joined by renegade soldiers, vengeful Indians, cold-blooded killers and "gentlemen from town." As they near the golden canyon, all but MacKenna are swept by a sudden fever - the naked greed for gold. MACKENNA'S GOLD is one of the most exciting Westerns ever made.
