The weaving traditions of Varanasi can be traced back to the Vedic times and have been handed down from generation to generation. Not a skill that can be taught in any institution, weaving is an art that takes a lifetime of dedication to master. Bunkar is a documentary telling the story of the community of the hand-loom weavers of Varanasi, India. It uses animation to delve into its pre-Vedic origins and journeys with the story of the growth and subsequent decline of this art over the years. Bunkar is an attempt to awaken society to the reality of the life of a weaver and the price he pays so that this Indian legacy lives for one more day.
