How many times will they sink the ship before they let the poor ocean liner rest in peace at the bottom of the Atlantic?

That will be the question that movie fans will be asking in early 2012 when, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Titanic will be making another theatrical run. And yes, this time it's in 3D.

Oh boy!

I guess it was really only a matter of time after last week's announcement that Star Wars was coming back in 3D and James Cameron's penchant for re-releasing movies, *cough* Avatar *cough*. But the real question is whether audiences will flock to megaplexes to see Titanic sink yet again in enough numbers for the former box office champ to regain its crown from the other Cameron movie, the aforementioned Avatar?

So, it seems that 2012 is shaping up to be the Summer of 3D re-releases. No wonder the Mayans believed that the world is going to end on December 21, 2012. After all this 3D hype, I know that I will feel like the world is coming to an end.

Again, I don't have a problem with movies being re-released on the big screen. In fact, my girlfriend and I got jazzed up about a retro series at our local megaplex that will allow us to see The Goonies and Ghostbusters back on the big screen.

No, my problem is, and remains, taking movies and converting them into the lousy gimmick that is 3D simply to charge a premium ticket price.

I'm quite content seeing movies the old-fashioned way, in 2D. I'm also quite content to see *gasp* black and white movies on the big screen as it would be a treat to see something in that medium when I've grown up watching, say Casablanca or Citizen Kane, on a small TV screen.

Oh, and the price is right. The cost for those retro series movies? A measly $5.00.

Are you going to line up to watch the big boat sink again in 3D? Or will you join me in my 3D boycott?
